News from Our Health Department
The Hunterdon County Health Department recently reported that there has been an increase in the number of rabies cases in wildlife animals this summer. This is an important reminder to make sure that we take precautions to protect ourselves and loved ones from this deadly virus.
Here are some important steps you can take to lower your risk:
- VACCINATE YOUR DOG AND CATS!
- Report any suspicious/ unusual animal behavior to our Animal Control Officer – Tim Norton @ (908)339-1109
- Avoid contact with stray and wild animals and do not FEED or touch wild animals.
- Keep your pets under supervision in your yard or on a leash to minimize contact with wild animals.
- Teach children to never approach unfamiliar dogs, cats or wildlife.
- Report ALL animal bites immediately to the Hunterdon County Health Department at (908)-788-1351.
There is no known cure for rabies, however there is a vaccination available for post exposure.
