PROPERTY REVALUATION PROGRAM- IMPORTANT!!

You will receive a letter and brochure from Professional Property Appraisers, Inc. with information about a property revaluation that has begun in the Borough.  Please read both the letter and brochure as there is helpful information in each which should answer the majority of your questions. 

A few key points: 

1. This revaluation was mandated by the Hunterdon County Board of Taxation.
2. It does not automatically mean that your property taxes will increase!  What typically happens in a revaluation is that one third of the property taxes decrease, one third stay the same and one third increase.  Overall, the Borough will be collecting the same amount of revenue from taxes, not more. 
3. Field representatives will be wearing a photo identification badge.  Our Police Department has conducted background checks on all of the field representatives and has a list of their vehicles. If you have a question about an individual or a vehicle, call Washington Township Police at 908-876-3232 and press 0 for dispatch.
4. The field representatives need to do exterior and interior inspections of your property.  Appointments for interior inspections can be scheduled on weekdays, weekday evenings, and Saturdays. 
5. It is in your best interest to allow the field representative to do an interior inspection! If you don’t, they will estimate the interior at the highest possible value. 
6. The revaluation will be completed by the end of 2026 and new assessments will be used for 2027 taxes.
