Sun Protection

September 7, 2018

Lisa Waseleski, RN

Decrease your skin cancer risk. As per the MD Anderson Cancer Center more people are diagnosed with skin cancer than any other cancer. Skin cancer is preventable through attention to a few sensible habits.

  1. Apply sunscreen with SPF of at least 30 or higher.
  2. Reapply after swimming or every 2-4 hours.
  3. Wear a wide brimmed hat when outdoors as well as sun protective clothing.
  4. Teach children about sun safety.
  5. Sunglasses are important to protect your eyes, polarized lenses will add extra protection.
  6. Go with your own glow.
  7. Minimize sun exposure between 10AM and 2PM when the sun’s rays are the strongest.

Fresh air and exercise are all part of a healthy lifestyle, be smart about the sun. Sun protection is key to the avoidance of skin cancer.
