2nd Annual Califon Troutfest

Califon Recreation is partnering with CAMPA (Califon Area Merchants and Professionals Association) and Shannon’s Fly and Tackle to present the Second Annual Califon Troutfest on May 5^th, 2018. Registration starts at 7:30 AM at Califon Island Park. The Rain date is May 6^th. The fishing area is from Califon Island Park downstream through Califon Pond on River Road. The Kids Trout Derby starts at 8:00 AM and continues until Noon. Shannon’s One Fly Contest starts at 1:00 PM and continues until 4:00 PM.

The morning consists of an old fashioned trout derby for kids up to age 15.  They will pick their favorite bait, lure or fly and go fishing. The afternoon gets a lot more interesting and a bit more demanding.  There will be a “one fly” contest where anglers are challenged to create their one fly (with some help from Shannon’s) and then get out onto the River and fish.  The biggest trout caught and released wins the cash prize. All fish for both events will be recorded by our guides and assistants.  There will be equipment vendors and live music during the day at Califon Island Park.  Shannon’s has arranged for a special stocking prior to the Troutfest. 

Coffee and donuts will be available at Califon Island Park, and delicious food is available at the local restaurants. Individuals at the registration center will direct you to the restaurant serving your favorite type of food.

Shannon’s has made arrangements for a number of different equipment vendors to participate again. This is a great way to start the Spring, and a wonderful event for the entire family.
